OVERVIEW
Climbing Mount Meru is a breathtaking experience, with a diverse range of landscapes and ecosystems to explore along the way. The ascent begins through lush forests with abundant birdlife and wildlife such as colobus monkeys and elephants. As the climb progresses, hikers will pass through grasslands and heathlands, with spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.
The summit climb to Mount Meru is a challenging and rewarding experience, with a steep and rocky trail leading to the top. However, the stunning panoramic views of Kilimanjaro and the surrounding plains make the effort worthwhile. On clear days, you can even catch a glimpse of Mount Kenya in the distance.
One of the highlights of climbing Mount Meru is the opportunity to explore the stunning crater at the top. The Meru crater is a spectacular sight to behold, with steep walls and a crater floor covered in ash and rocks. The crater also features a small ash cone, which is still active and can be seen smoking on occasion.
For those seeking a less strenuous adventure, there are shorter treks and day hikes available around the lower slopes of Mount Meru. These treks offer stunning views of the mountain and the surrounding landscape, with opportunities to see wildlife such as buffalo, giraffe, and warthogs.
